Fragmentación de bosques y selección de hábitat de un oso pardo (Ursus arctos) radiomarcado en el Parque Natural de Somiedo (Asturias).

A male bear (Ursus arctos) from the small population living in the Cantabrican Mountains was tracked in a fragmented landscape with 29% forest left. This individual was located within forest more than expected from total forest availability, and within relatively large woodlots (>16 ha) more than expected from the frequency of this size class as compared to smaller woodlots. When the bear was outside the forest, the distance between its locations and the nearest forest was significantly smaller than expected from the hypothesis of a random (unselective) use of the landscape. These results indicate that further removal of forest might entail the extinction of this threatened bear population.
