Impacto del tráfico rodado sobre los vertebrados del Parque Natural de L'Albufera (Valencia). Datos preliminares.

Survey of vertebrate mortality in Albufera Natural Park, E Spain. A 8-km stretch of a local road was intensively surveyed. The road passes right on the border between two habitats, and traffic can be very high, especially during summer, but the road was not checked in this season. The authors believe, however, that summer kills would not be higher than in other seasons, because traffic density lowers car speed and fauna is not at its highest level of abundance. Rattus norvegicus occupied the first place (56% deaths) among all run over vertebrates, which reflected its abundance. Regarding birds, waterfowl was not the most affected group despite the local abundace of this group. Passeriformes (Erithacus rubecula, Passer domesticus and Phylloscopus collibyta) instead were frequently killed, probably because the study area was covered by pine forest.
